genesis maria stark (frost) is the daughter of iron man and the white queen, emma frost. stark and frost were lovers during tony’s hellfire membership some time ago; but on one fateful night in monte carlo, they severed ties. it was the last time emma allowed herself to share hearts with anthony ———— or, more properly, share sheets, as their arrangement was more based in pleasure rather than traditional romantic connection. the white queen was invested in the preparatory school she ran (the massachusetts academy), as well as the hellfire club, and thereby had no interest in a serious relationship.it wasn’t long after tony and emma’s final night together that the hellions (a group of students she’d been mentoring) were slaughtered by sentinels. emma and the x-men set their differences aside and together, they defeated the responsible evil. sick with grief, she retired from teaching for a moment and turned over a new leaf, leaving the hellfire club and her life of sin behind. it was during this period of quietude and rebirth that she came to discover she was with child ———— tony stark’s child.emma was determined to overcome her wretched past and spread her wings, no matter how tattered and bloodstained they might’ve been; she did not need iron man ———— arrogant men made for arrogant fathers, this she knew well ———— and neither would the child. furthermore, it was in the nature of humankind to view mutants as threats. men and their egos. men and their machines. no … their child would possess the x-gene, just like her mother. children were her passion, after all ———— the very reason her heart beat.

when genesis FROST entered this godforsaken world, she was named to celebrate a ‘new beginning.’ the white queen returned to her teaching career, this time on the same side as the x-men. genesis was raised amongst the madness of the xavier institute, and then genosha, and then on the island utopia off the coast of san francisco ———— no matter where mutantkind was forced to migrate, genesis and her mother went.as far as parentage was concerned, the girl was emma’s, and that’s all that mattered. though whispers followed them everywhere, nobody had any truly solid guesses, as emma was new to the x-men and her alliance with them was merely a bud, not yet a blossom. being one of the strongest telepaths on earth, the white queen’s mind was impenetrable ———— her secrets were locked in cages nobody would ever find the key to. or so she thought.emma’s dedication to teaching the next generation of mutants never wavered. while she was gen’s teacher, as well, genesis did not receive the same strenuous training as the older children (such as the danger room). she was just a little girl. just an unimpressive, useless little girl. her powers weren’t likely to manifest for years to come, this she knew, yet inadequacy spread its roots in the garden of her. she was helpless against it.she ceaselessly wondered what her powers would be, what that fateful day would look like, what her mother would say, how wide their twin smiles would be … genesis was an avid wonderer. a dutiful daydreamer. reveries were her remedy, and she clung to them like a stray clinging to scraps of meat. she fed herself fantasies by the spoonful. perhaps she’d be a shapeshifter, capable of twisting herself into whomever she desired … or maybe a mutant with the power to make wishes come true, the very first of her kind … but guessing at her destined abilities could only keep her mind distracted for so long. thoughts about her father were held weakly at bay; she imagined that part of her conscience as a swirling pool of questions restrained by a shoddy dam, and once one leak sprang, the whole river came rushing in : is he a human? is the x-gene going to skip over you because of him? is he a criminal? where does he live? is he rich? could he be dead? does he hate mutants? is that why mother removed him from the equation? sometimes, genesis tried to picture him ———— she started by thinking of her own appearance and pinpointing all of the features she didn’t borrow from emma, then, she’d imagine what an older man might look like with those attributes ———— like ritual, she mapped the same detail first every time : eyes the color of amber.even before the stepford cuckoos (emma’s quintuplet daughters who were born in a lab) came around, genesis felt obligated to compete for her mother’s attention (though there needn’t be a competition at all, as she was deeply loved by emma, but she feared she would lose this love due to being so weak). the cuckoos did, however, make things much, much worse. the five girls were infamous for their spiteful behavior and lack of mental boundaries ———— unprotected minds were their playgrounds. they took a peek at every daydream and every crisis that made home in gen’s conscience; when they dug deep enough, they discovered : her fear of being cast aside by their mother in favor of her most promising students, + her perpetual anxiety about her father‘s concealed identity. gen’s thoughts were ammunition for her ‘sisters.’ the stepford five were cruel young things, indeed, and they often sought out to hurt emma as a cry for attention. genesis suffered their bullying day by day, tortured to tears on multiple occasions. despite being raised by a diamond, genesis was a fragile child. as her emotions spread through her, they had a way of leaving cracks in their wake; she never could ignore these cracks for very long, and whenever she allowed herself to feel emotions in their entirety, she shattered.emma put an end to their antics by placing a barrier in gen’s mind, one that protected her from their telepathic attacks. yet, this only made young genesis feel weaker; she was powerless … incapable of defending herself … nothing without her mother to protect her.the cuckoos didn’t need telepathy to get inside of her head.

when the stepford five suffered the death of one of their sisters, they were demoted to the stepford four. their student and mentor relationship with emma continued to grow hostile, as they blamed her for their loss. the girls could no longer attack genesis telepathically, but that did not prevent them from attacking her verbally and physically ———— they locked her alone in the basement, ripped the head off of her dearest teddy bear, stole emma’s attention from her and redirected it to themselves, placed false narratives in other people’s heads that would lead them to believe gen did something worthy of scolding, etc. … the list went on and on. once, they even tried to sneak into emma’s head in search of answers about gen’s father ———— but, even when they put their four minds together, they were incapable of infiltrating the diamond fortress that is the white queen’s mind. furious with their mother on several accounts, the stepford cuckoos tipped off jean grey on the psychic affair between emma and scott summers.when jean grey discovered this betrayal, she unleashed a psychic onslaught upon emma, digging up the white queen’s deepest, darkest moments ———— the death of her students, her abusive childhood ———— an attack so vicious it beckoned the attention of every soul in the xavier academy. as jean flipped through emma’s mental file cabinet of secrets and spoke them for all to hear, she found the truth about genesis’s father ———— tony stark.tony stark. gen had only ever seen him on TV … usually standing at a podium and boasting to the world, or clad in the iron man suit and rescuing the people of their planet … though destruction was often spread along the way. he was a man in high—tech armor. not an x-men … not a mutant. she spent all of her life yearning for this piece of information, but now that she had it … she had no idea what to do with it. emma was completely distraught after jean made her relive the deaths of her past students, so genesis left her alone for a while. once emma collected herself, she explained to her daughter that tony stark was a thing of the past, a footnote from a point in her life that she did not look back upon with pride. better left in the past, she said ———— for iron man was an avenger, and the avengers have never fought the mutant fight. they’d lived their lives without him, and they would continue to do so … just as tony had lived his life without them and he would continue to do so. genesis would remain as just emma’s child. she was a mutant, and she belonged amongst the x-men. … right?

during the utopia era, genesis was roughly a preteen ———— the prime age for manifestation of mutant powers … though hers never came. she called herself a “late—bloomer,” but she began to wonder if she would ever bloom at all. emma reassured her that her time would come, and until then, she taught her daughter basic skills that did not require the use of any specific powers, such as resisting telepathic intrusion. anyone could protect their mind so long as they focused and committed. as the lessons continued, genesis wasn’t capable of banishing people from her mind, but she did learn to sense when someone was inside of it. a small victory.peace on utopia was brief (a pity … gen had grown to quite like it there … but after genosha, she knew nothing good ever lasted). mutantkind once again faced the threat of the phoenix force; it was traveling to earth in search of a new host, as jean grey had recently died trying to destroy it. but the x-men weren’t the only ones who knew the phoenix was coming ———— the avengers feared its power and sought out to destroy it, whilst scott summers believed it was returning to earth to save mutantkind. this disagreement led to the beginning of the avengers vs. the x-men. as the two leagues battled on the shores of utopia, genesis cowered within the confines of her chambers. she snuck a peak through her window just in time to witness her mother socking iron man in the gut. it was the closest gen had ever been to her father.when the x-men took off, they left their children behind, genesis and the cuckoos included ———— the avengers rounded all of them up and brought them to the avengers compound, because, as hawkeye put it : “we needed a safe place for ‘em. where they won’t get mixed up in the craziness.” on the jet ride there, she found herself searching for tony, eager to get an up—close look at the father she’d spent years trying to imagine ———— but iron man flew himself. even after so many years without him, she still felt disappointed by his absence. the hole in her heart would always be there. genesis hid in her guest room for the entirety of her stay at the compoumd. whilst the other x—children mingled with the young avengers, she just wanted to go home to utopia ———— to emma.the fight between the avengers and the x-men was not quickly resolved; the two groups were restless as they awaited the phoenix force’s descent. and when the moment finally came, iron man launched the plan he’d been constructing since their battle on the shores of utopia. however, in his attempt to destroy the phoenix force, it broke into fragments that were absorbed into five different x-men ———— amongst them: emma frost and scott summers.as the ‘phoenix five’ utilized their new powers to make the world a better place, the conflict died down and genesis was taken back home by emma. but when they arrived to utopia, it was … different. the island had been totally reconstructed by the phoenix five. even more jarring, though, was her mother’s behavior ———— emma burned with a power so great that it threatened to consume her.the phoenix five descended into madness. scott and emma were the only two phoenix hosts left standing, having absorbed the other fragments from their teammates. the two swelled with even more power than before. emma rambled to her daughter like a madwoman ———— [ genesis, what if i told you we could remake the world? what if we could burn it all to ash and begin anew? / wouldn’t people get hurt? / only for a moment ... but we, mutants, we have suffered endlessly. and i possess the power to twist that suffering into something beautiful. when the earth is reborn, i promise you, darling ———— the cost will not trouble you. ] her gut twisted into knots; something inside of her shifted out of place. she almost thought she might've been missing the safety of the avengers compound ... she never did get to meet tony during her stay, but she found herself wishing she had. could you miss a man you barely knew? a man who did not know you, either? of course you could. you’ve been doing it since birth.charles xavier feared the path scott was headed down and teamed up with the avengers to attempt to negotiate with him. they arrived on utopia, though things did not go as planned. genesis, alongside the avengers and the x-men, watched as scott consumed emma with flames and took her half of the phoenix force for himself. she watched as blood pooled from her motionless mother's mouth. she watched as scott killed charles xavier. she watched as death and destruction descended upon her home, yet again.the gravity of the moment awoke her mutation : her skin began turning into amethyst, making its way up from her feet. genesis was terrified ———— more than she'd ever been. since she was just a small child, she always yearned to one day have powers half as impressive as the mutants she grew up with ———— she thought herself a weakling amongst champions. the runt of the litter. but her mutation finally showed itself … and all those years of anticipation disappeared. she came to hate the very moment she always longed for. as the cold crystal crept up her body, she became inconsolable, sobbing, “i don’t want it! please————i don’t want it! make it stop!” mother dearest wasn't there to cradle her; emma, unconscious and badly injured, was being taken into custody for the crimes she'd committed as one of the phoenix hosts. but for the first time in her life, genesis didn't even want to be consoled by emma ... not after what she saw her and scott do. she begged iron man to take her away from the destruction ———— away from the x—men.

[ what is it, mister stark? / when that little girl begged me to save her … she called me dad, jarvis. / would you like me to scan her dna? / what’s her birthday? / march 30th of {YEAR}, sir. / nine months after my last night with emma frost. ]
..
once she was taken to the avengers compound, genesis locked herself inside of her room. the only time she spoke was when jarvis checked on her via the device built into her wall. her emotions towards emma changed by the day, twisting from anger into sadness and sadness into fear and repeat.desperate to kickstart their relationship, tony built gen a ring that kept her powers under control ———— the ‘x—ring,’ he called it. she’d spent most of her life unaware of her father’s identity and the rest of it avoiding him, but when he gifted her the x—ring, she felt … relieved. she did not want to return to the x—men. if she could, she’d have thrown away her powers completely. the x—ring was as close as she’d get, though; in her eyes, it protected her from the worst part of herself. as long as she wore it, she didn’t have to be afraid. she could be normal.after the phoenix five catastrophe, emma lost control over her powers for a while. she was weakened ... her and scott both. once she'd been broken out of prison, she demanded tony allow her to see genesis ———— he refused, though it hurt him to do so. this was the most tony had seen of emma since their hellfire club days, yet he still didn't have it in him to be angry with her, even knowing she'd concealed their daughter from him for so long. he was petrified, sure, but mostly by the idea of fatherhood. he understood why a woman like emma would exclude a man like him from her life. he explained to her that genesis herself didn't have any interest in seeing emma after the tragedy on utopia ———— that she was scared, not only of emma, but of scott. with her powers hindered, the white queen wasn't able to send telepathic transmissions to gen, though god knows she tried.tony did not intend to hide genesis away from her mother; all she had to do was say the word, and he'd take her to go see emma. but she never did say it.as genesis grew, she still refused to visit her mother, though emma came to see her on numerous occasions. gen stubbornly shut her out. she knew leaning into emma would mean leaning into her mutation; a prospect that sent shockwaves of panic through her bones. her amethyst form was so ... cold, so void of warmth and feeling ... and it presented itself to her on a day she refused to look back upon. she intended on living the rest of her teenage years with her father. and though the avengers didn’t have much of a peaceful life either, she was far away from the curse that came with the x—gene. still, genesis never stopped feeling cowardly and guilty for abandoning emma and mutantkind.

tony paid for her to attend an impressive private school, where her peers believed her to be human. no matter where she went, though, she always felt misplaced. throughout teenagehood, genesis struggled greatly with bouts of depression and mania, and started carelessly venturing out on her own ———— clubs, penthouse parties, maxing out her credit card, etc. if happy hogan wasn’t scooping her up and returning her home, she was stumbling through the penthouse doors at five in the morning with heels in her hand and mascara smeared on her cheeks. tony even started placing trackers in her things, though it wasn’t long before she caught on. rumors and whispers about her reckless behavior often slipped into the media. journalists whom weren’t particularly fond of tony would use this information to take petty shots at him in their writing.at 17, her everlasting existential crisis influenced her to remove her x—ring every once in a while. she discovered that her amethyst form numbed her emotions, and thereupon developed the habit of shifting her skin every night before bed; insomnia never left her alone, but turning into amethyst or chugging a bottle of vodka became quick fixes. one evening, she fell asleep without the ring on and stepped into an insanely vivid dream —–—— she was flying through the skies of new york, ascending further and further towards a wormhole that led into space. it was all so horrifyingly real ———— genesis could feel her chest caving in as the oxygen left her lungs. higher, higher, higher she flew, until she stopped breathing completely. and just when she was certain death was near, she awoke; blood poured from her nose, and her head pulsed with a migraine so agonizing that it felt as if her brain was bleeding, too. it wasn’t her dream. it was tony’s. and then the thoughts started flooding in ———— tens, hundreds, thousands, all at once. her father’s … pepper’s … everyone passing by on the bustling streets of new york … she heard it all.due to wearing the x—ring for a prolonged amount of time, her second mutation, telepathy, manifested at a much later date. she did not handle this new ability with any more grace than she did the first. in the midst of a manic episode, she attempted to attend a day of school without the ring on, but the flood of thoughts was too overwhelming ———— she collapsed in agony, emitting psionic energy that caused a group of students near her to fall unconscious. genesis rushed to the nearest gateway to krakoa that she could find (luckily, there were five just in new york alone) and stepped through. she wanted her mother. for the first time in ages, she ran into emma’s arms and begged her for comfort. [ please, mom ... i can't get the thoughts to quiet down, and i ———— i'm in so much pain. i should've never put this ring on. i should've never turned my back on you. i'm sorry ... i made a mistake. ] meanwhile, tony was afraid that the mutant response division had seized genesis after her outburst at school, as she had neglected to inform any of her other friends or family members of her whereabouts.after spending a while on krakoa with emma, genesis learned how to get a hold on her telepathic abilities. she wasn’t an expert by any means, though she had gotten significantly better at focusing out the thoughts she didn’t want to hear. gen eventually returned home, where she apologized to tony for : keeping her second mutation a secret, running away from home, and for being ‘a horrible daughter’ (a comment which tony strongly refuted). from that point forward, she equally distributed her time between her mother and her father. tony procured a psychiatrist for her ———— dr. berry ———— who diagnosed her with bipolar disorder and ptsd. gen began attending regular therapy sessions and was prescribed the proper medications (however, she isn’t very good at taking them.)as she spent more time in krakoa, she took on the alias ‘amethyst’ as a way of integrating herself back into the life she turned away from. gen struggles greatly with her sense of self, and seeks to rectify her ‘error’ of betraying mutantkind. ever since she publicly opened up about her mutant identity, she’s had a rougher time than ever when dealing with the press. she’s infamous for being cynical and uncomfortable when the paparazzi flash their microphones and cameras in her face.

during the hellfire gala, nimrod descended upon krakoa and murdered countless mutants. gen shifted to amethyst to protect herself, but was shattered into gemstones by his fist. he was part of the anti-mutant organization known as ORCHIS, who were behind the attack. they fled to their space station, where genesis was reconstructed by dr. stasis and mind—controlled into a violent puppet —— a weapon used to keep their other prisoners in line. she was in a cooperative trance, helpless / trapped inside her own body. when a man refused dr. stasis's orders, gen was forced to use her telepathy to make him fatally stab himself.

after a few days, the war between ORCHIS and mutants + ended; the x-men emerged victorious, though their losses were immense. dr. stasis was killed by emma, and genesis was freed from his clutches. she returned to earth, where her mother crowned her as the new ceo of frost international. emma's name as a businesswoman had recently been tarnished due to ORCHIS attacking her in the press, so she entrusted gen with the company whilst she headed off to assemble a new team of young mutants. but genesis does not believe herself to be the proper fit. she does not believe in herself at all. she never has. she thinks of the man from the space station ... the one she mind—controlled into ending his life. it's all she can think of. however, her amethyst form is much like her mother's diamond form —— whenever she hardens her skin, she feels cold. numb. a shell of a person, with no ache or sorrow ... just ... empty. for the meantime, she much prefers it this way, and so she traps herself beneath amethyst flesh, refusing to return to her normal form.and, please ... don't even ask about her parents rekindling their relationship only to break it off again. life's confusing enough. she thought she was no longer the desperate little girl who dreamed for her parents to get back together, but ... that might not be so true.

001. genesis is an original character inspired by various events within marvel’s earth—616 comics. most notable influences include: new x—men (2001—2004), avengers vs. x—men (2012), uncanny x—men (2013—2015), all new x-men (2012), hellfire gala (2023), fall of the house of x (2023), rise of the powers of x (2024), invincible iron man (2022), and exceptional x—men (2024—present).
002. further inspiration from this character comes from the iron man trilogy and the first two avengers movies. she’s sort of an amalgamation portrayal. i’m fully open to interacting with characters from any universe!
003. this character was originally created in 2020, though countless changes to her backstory have taken place since.
004. i used a lot of events from the aforementioned comics in order to better mold her character, but I understand if writers of canon characters don’t see all of those changes working for their specific portrayal. that being said, i’m willing to be flexible and i’m always glad to plot connections!
005. gen is diagnosed with PTSD and bipolar disorder, as is the writer behind her. she’s prescribed aripiprazole, though she often abuses alcohol and other substances, which does not mix well with her medication, leading her to fall into patterns of neglecting to take her meds at all.
006. writer is quite busy on a day—to—day basis, so activity will be sporadic. i typically do most of my writing at night [CST].
